I want to see electric cars used more. One of the limitations for using the EV is range. One way to combat this problem is to have charging stations throughout the Kansas City area to allow for longer trips. Since there is no governmental or business initiative to create a charging infrastructure this is an attempt to create a community network of charging locations. Electricity is everywhere, it's just an access problem. Below is a link to a google map that shows all the voluntary charge locations in the KC area to date. Fill out the form if you wish to be added to the map.

This is basically a grass roots approach to a charging infrastructure. EV drivers call the phone number ahead of time to make sure charging will be available. I would suggest that you offer the provider 15 cents a kilowatt for the use of the charge. You could use a Kill-a-watt meter (they only go to 15A however) to measure the usage. I know mine takes about 1.2 kw/hour to charge so maybe an estimate would work.
This is an approach I suggest we can take today.
1. Identify a location that would be utilized by an EV.
2. Distribute a flyer in the surrounding neighborhood, searching for someone that might want to provide a charge.
3. Pay more for the electricity than, say 15 cents/kw, to provide incentive.
One of the hopes in creating this map would be to show the support that there is for electric car usage. If we could get several hundred points throughout the city then maybe this would support any request for funding a project to install a charging stations.
