LMHOST SETUP
1. XP - enable file sharing, Share top drive as C
2. Setup Static IP in DHCP
3. Make entry in LMHOST.TXT file
4. When load an LMHOST.TXT file it makes the LMHOST (no extension) file and places all your entries in that file. (the lmhost file w/no extension, is the result of the loading)
5. Examine NetBios cache by using the following command:
nbtstat –c
You can reload the cashe using command:
nbtstat -R
This will list all the computer being accessed.
6. Test each computer with Ping command, sometimes Norton will have ICMP blocking on.
NORTON INTERNET SECURITY
Had a problem with a computer that couldn’t ping itself. Login as administrator
Configure/Advanced/General, uncheck Default Block Inbound and Outbound ICMP
Also have to allow Windows File Sharing in same area.
Another way that worked to allow accessing through the norton security was to enable a range of IP's to be trusted.
