Platte Woods United Methodist Church (7310 NW Prairie View Rd, Platte Woods/So
Platte Co) is hosting an environmental stewardship event on May 2, 2009. (one
week before the BTG event at Theis Park) The theme of our event is "God's
World in Our Hands." The event is going to focus broadly on how to make
greener choices in our daily lives. The event will be conducted as festival
with entertainment and activities from 12:00 to 5:00 PM on Sat, May 2.
I am working on the information and displays for our event. We are planning to
have children's activities, snacks, some hands-on displays, and live
entertainment (Green Elvis). There will be indoor displays that highlight
transportation choices including ridesharing, transit and biking and
literature about cleaner vehicles.
We will be featuring a clean car exhibit in a parking lot that fronts along
Prairie View Road (accessed from the Church entry) and have commitments from
several area dealerships to show new hybrid and CNG cars. We would love to
have some of your members showcase what can be done with existing vehicles as
well. Last year, my adult son spent the entire Home Show in conversation with
a couple of your members.
The Church is promoting the event to other congregations, civic and
neighborhood groups in southern Platte County and through ads in The Star. We
will be giving away reusable shopping bags and the first 100 visitors will
receive tubed trees for planting w/instructions to make the tube itself into a
bird feeder.
We propose to leave most of the indoor displays set up through Sunday, May 3
at 1:00 PM so that they can also be viewed by members who come to worship and
would be happy to include information about MAEAA. Our average Sunday
attendance is about 800 persons.
Please contact me if you're interested. I would be happy to answer any
questions you may have and would like to make it easy and fun for some of you
to participate.
Thank you,
Carol Adams
